Just back from a crazy week end of action. I was in Marignane - le Jaï for a stop of the French tour, we had 3 days of competition and the last one was definitely crazy ! Ind
We had the chance to race 2 full éliminations during the we. On Saturday the wind was there but really challenging and we had to switch from one equipment to the other all the afternoon. But we were amble to finish a full elimination ladder. After a correct start , I was fighting for the 3rd place and I decided to attack at mark n°3. I made a really nice inside jibe but unfortunately the board of the other rider catch my boom at the end of the manoeuver then I finish on the water. I tried my best but it was impossible to come back and I finished 10th. Not the best start but a good way to get the racing flavor back.
For the next day, forecast were epic and it was true ! Wind was firing and wave and chop were massive on the lake. We had 40 to 50+ knots on the water. I prepared my 2 smallest sail 5.0 and 5.5 to be ready to fight back the ranking. Despite the hardcore conditions, I took lot of pleasure in the water and enjoy this strong wind a lot. After a complicated start, I arrive in good position at the 1st mark but I had to avoid another rider and quickly swan on the water… After that I went full on to come back and I was going really fast , just missing the race victory for 1m.

De retour d’une épreuve dantesque je vous fais un rapide résumé de ce week end durant lequel s’est déroulé une étape du Championnat de France.
Nous avons pu courir 2 courses tout au long des 3 jours de compétitions organisés par l’Aff à Marignane sur le célèbre spot du Jaï. Le samedi nous avons pu courir une manche dans l’après midi avec des conditions pas forcément évidente à négocier car très changeantes. Il a fallu s’adapter et switcher d’un matos à l’autre durant tout l’après midi mais nous avons pu finalement valider une élimination complète. Après un départ dans le traffic, je bataillais pour la 3ème place avec un autre concurrent. J’attaquais à la 3ème marque avec un bel intérieur mais malheureusement la planche de l’autre coureur venait attraper l’arrière de mon wish à la sortie de la manœuvre et je finissais dans l’eau. Même en faisant mon maximum, je ne pouvais revenir sur la flotte et terminais 10ème. Pas la meilleure des façons pour débuter une épreuve mais par contre cela m'a permis d’emblée de me remettre dans le jus de la compétition.
Le lendemain des conditions dantesques étaient annoncées et la météo ne s’était pas trompé ! Nous avons pu courir une nouvelle manche dans un vent entre 40 et 50+ noeuds et un plan d’eau démonté. J’avais préparé mes 2 plus petites voiles, 5.5 et 5.0 pour pouvoir revenir dans le classement. Malgré la difficulté des conditions j’ai pris beaucoup de plaisir sur l’eau à affronter ces conditions extrêmes. Après un départ difficile en finale, j’arrivais bien placé à la bouée n°1 mais malheureusement le coureur devant moi chuta et je fus forcé de me mettre à l’eau pour l’éviter. Ensuite, je me lançais dans une véritable course poursuite pour remonter et finalement terminé à 1 petit mètre du vainqueur.

This 2nd place helped me to come back at the 4th seat in the ranking, then the crew decided to call of the day as it started to be dangerous for themself on the boat. Big congrats to them as they manage to set a great race on this challenging conditions. I also really enjoy to see smile in every face even if the conditions were hard.

Je remontais alors à la 4ème place de l’évènement mais l’équipe organisatrice décidée d’en rester là car cela devait compliquer pour les bateaux d’évoluer en sécurité. Chapeau bas à toute l’équipe qui a su nous mettre à disposition un beau parcours malgré les conditions. Je retiendrais le sourire de tout le monde, coureur et orga malgré la violence du mistral !
Je vous laisse juger par vous même sur les photos et je vous donne rdv dans 10jours à Leucate pour une nouvelle étape, surement très ventée aussi :)
